Book launching of Nicolae Şt. Noica at B.N.R.
Tuesday, on July 18, 2017, within the New Palace of the National Bank of Romania, was launched the book “Ion I.C. Bratianu, construction engineer and state man “written by Nicolae Şt. Noica, former Minister of Public Works.
In the opening, the Governor of the National Bank of Romania notes that “there is no more important building in Bucharest (…) that Professor Noica did not write”, reminding, also, the Ministry of Public Works (currently the City Hall) The Academy of High Commercial and Industrial Studies (currently Academy of Economic Studies) and other modern architectural achievements of Romania.
Mugur Isarescu stressed in the book’s preface that “the emergence of this book is an important editorial event because it is part of the commemorations of the crucial moments spent a hundred years ago, between 1916 and 1918, with a decisive role in realising an ideal for centuries – the Great Union […]”.
Academician Ioan-Aurel Pop, the rector of Babeş-Bolyai University from Cluj-Napoca, said that Professor Nicolae Noica did not write a book, “but he made a praiseworthy affair, he found an axiomatic answer to the question what had done Ionel Bratianu for the country”. “Ionel Bratianu did not have to do anything for the country, because he did even the country from the high position he was in”.
In his opinion, such a book was needed in the context Centenary of the Great Union celebration, but also to “awarness the current Romanian political class.”
The volume published by the “Weather” Publishing House contains many Ion Bratianu’s private correspondence pages to the family, friends, acquaintances, as well as personal scriptures on political topics or on the journeys made by him. Also, the book contains many photos from the Romanian Academy archive, the National Archives of Romania and the author’s archive, as well as letters, work plans and engineering drawings.
The event was honored by presence of personalities from the political scene, among the scientists, culture and art, members of prestigious institutions in the Capital and country, people from showbiz and lovers of the culture and history of Great Romania.
